One config line hands Codex approval prompts to a reviewer agent: approvals_reviewer
The useful part of this week's viral "split Codex across models" post is a single setting. When an approval prompt comes up, a reviewer agent looks first instead of you.
# ~/.codex/config.toml
model = "gpt-6.1-sol"
model_reasoning_effort = "high"
sandbox_mode = "workspace-write"
approval_policy = "on-request"
approvals_reviewer = "auto_review" # default is "user"
Two combinations from the official docs are worth knowing. workspace-write + on-request, as above, is the safe side of local automation; danger-full-access + never is everything allowed. The untrusted value was retired, so fix it if it's still in an old config.
For a one-off from the CLI:
codex --sandbox workspace-write --ask-for-approval on-request
The same post also recommends per-role agents in ~/.codex/agents/*.toml and an agents.default_subagent_model key. Neither appears in the official docs, so hold off on that part until it's confirmed.
