How to install the CapCut plugin in Codex and edit videos by chat

CapCut's official Codex plugin lets you make and edit videos from a Codex task. Describe an idea or upload footage, CapCut builds an editable draft, and you change clip order, caption timing and music by chatting. It is available outside the U.S. only for now (U.S. launch coming soon).

1. Open a new Codex task in the ChatGPT desktop app (Mac or Windows). ChatGPT in a browser does not work.
2. Paste the install prompt from CapCut's official page. It tells Codex to download a remote document and follow it, so make sure you copied it from CapCut's page yourself.

1. While Codex downloads and installs the plugin bundle, it asks for permissions one by one, such as network access and writes to the Codex data folder. Check what each is for, then approve.
2. After installing, Codex checks which country your connection comes from and opens the CapCut sign-in and consent page in the in-app browser. You sign in yourself. If your IP looks like the U.S., the plugin stays installed but authorization stops.
3. Once authorization is done, open a new Codex task and start using it.

Check the install from a terminal. On a Mac without a codex command, use /Applications/ChatGPT.app/Contents/Resources/codex instead.

The first command should list CapCut@CapCut as installed and enabled, and the second should show enabled as true.

It does two things: find CapCut templates from a description, image or video, and turn uploaded footage into a finished video with cuts, captions, transitions and music. For fine-grained changes, open the CapCut editor from the chat and adjust the timeline yourself. CapCut says you can try it for free. Since October 19, several posts on X have shown a Tesla Roadster promo video made this way.
